Those who come to Bald Head Island use Memorial Day Weekend as a perfect kickoff for the summer. There are tons of events going on everywhere you look that include the entire family.
Bald Head Island is one of the most picturesque locales in North Carolina and that beauty truly shines throughout the Memorial Day festivities. Here are some of the top things to do that weekend.
The Smith Island Art League 2018 Memorial Day Show
The Smith Island Art League is hosting their Memorial Day Show May 26-27 at the Bald Head Island Association Center. Art League members get to show off their work ranging from ceramics to photography and jewelry.
Junior members of the Art League will also get to join the exhibit with a two-hour Friday event titled, "Birds of Bald Head Island." The main art show is free each and runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Sunset Celebrations
Sunset Celebrations is a fun street and beach party held on Sunday, May 27 at the Riverside Adventure Co. There will be a host of fun family activities and prizes to win.
Bring the kids out to Sunset Celebrations to see jugglers, a puppet show, and live music. The beach party takes center stage at sunset with a bonfire, s'mores and drum circle.
The Turtle Trot 5K is the perfect activity for those looking to be active on Memorial Day Weekend. The Sunday race is being hosted by the Bald Head Island Conservancy and it takes a unique route through the island's maritime forest and excellent beachfront.
Registration is at 8:30 a.m. and the Turtle Trot 5K begins at 9 a.m. There are five different age groups that awards will be handed out to and admission is $45 for adults and $35 for children under 12.
Red, White & Blue Cookout at Bald Head Island Club
The annual Red, White & Blue Cookout at Bald Head Island Club provides great family fun from 4-8 p.m on May 27. There will be a BBQ buffet with all the traditional Memorial Day fixins, a Sweetwater Beer Tent and a variety of kids activities like cornhole and face painting.
The cookout will also feature a live music performance from Red, White, and Bluegrass. Tickets for the event are $20.95 for adults and $12.95 for children 4-11.
There are always a host of fun things going on at the Bald Head Island Conservancy. Kids can learn about crabbing and cast netting, have time with the touch tank or learn more about reptiles.
Classes including these activities and more are currently available for registration on Memorial Day. It is a great way to support an organization that is committed to impacting the world in a positive way.
