Topsail Island
About Topsail Island
Topsail Island, North Carolina is 26 miles of beach located about half-way between Wilmington and Jacksonville. Folklore says the island was named Topsail (pronounced Tops'l) because pirate ships hid behind the island with their topsails visible from the sea, but the name actually comes from the New Topsail Inlet. The inlet name can only be found in navigational charts located close to the other Topsail Inlet, located in Beaufort, N.C. Topsail Island is accessible by an old-fashioned swing bridge and a high-rise bridge. The Island is composed of three small towns ? North Topsail Beach, Surf City and Topsail Beach. On the mainland, towns include of Sneads Ferry, Holly Ridge, and Hampstead.
The Topsail region enjoys a mild climate that lends itself to a lot of year-round outdoor activities although they're best known for pristine, uncrowded beaches. Some of the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets can be found on the North Carolina coast are in Topsail.
